In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how, “Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits” and “then an herald cried aloud, to you it is commanded” the people to worship it or they “shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up”, and in chapter three and verse eight of his book Daniel shared what happened, “at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews” where we read,
Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
The verse reads, “Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, ...” Daniel began with the words, “wherefore at that time” or “therefore, then and on that account at the particular moment”, “certain Chaldeans” which means “particular Chaldeans whose name means clod breakers who were the inhabitants of Chaldea that were living on the lower Euphrates and Tigris” “came near” or “drew close and approached”. Daniel said that particular people who were inhabitants of “Chaldea” approached.
The verse continues, “... and accused the Jews.” Daniel added the words, “and accused” which means “charged and incriminated” “the Jews” or “the Jehudaites or Judaites”. Daniel said the “Chaldeans” approached and incriminated the people who were Jewish.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how there were a group of people from “Chaldea” who came to bring charges against the Jewish people. We remember how Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah resisted eating the king's meat, how much more would they disobey a command to bow down and worship his golden idol? God knew these things were designed against the Jewish people, and because His Son Jesus would descend from them and become the “Savior” of the world through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, God would preserve them. God loves the Jewish people, and He loves us. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to give us the power to resist all efforts to cause us to worship false idols in the world.
Next time Daniel shares how the accusers, “spoke and said to king Nebuchadnezzar”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
