Paul
the apostle asked those in Rome who judged others and were guilty
themselves, “do you despise the riches of his goodness and
forbearance and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God
leads you to repentance?”, and
in chapter two and verse five of Romans, Paul shared how these people
were treasuring up, “wrath against the day of wrath and
revelation of the righteous judgment of God;” where we read:
But
after your hardness and impenitent heart treasure up unto yourself
wrath
against
the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
The
verse begins, “But after your hardness and impenitent
heart treasure up unto yourself wrath ...”
Paul began with the word, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “after
your hardness” or “after
Paul's reader's obstinacy and stubbornness” “and
impenitent” which means
“admitting no change of mind and unrepentant” “heart”
which refers to “the soul or mind as it is the fountain and seat of
the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes and
endeavours ” “treasure up” or
“gather, store, lay up, heap up and accumulate” “unto
yourself” which means “to
their own selves” “wrath”
or “anger, temper, indignation, and agitation of the soul”. Paul
shared how these who judge others and were guilty themselves “stored
up” the “indignation” of God through their “stubborn and
unrepentant” souls.
The
verse continues, “... against the day of wrath and
revelation of the righteous judgment of God;” Paul
added the words, “against the day” which
means “for and toward the time” “of wrath” or
“anger, temper, indignation and agitation of the soul” “and
revelation” which refers to
“laying bare, disclosure of the truth, manifestation and
appearance” “of the righteous judgment”
which means “of the just sentence” “of God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul shared
how these people were “storing or treasuring up” “judgment”
for themselves when the “day” of
God's “judgment”
comes.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how “judging others”,
when people are guilty of the same things, only “stores up”
“judgment” against
oneself. God has a “day of judgment”
for everyone, (“And as it is appointed unto men
once to die, but after this the judgment:” Hebrews 9:27), and
God's “judgment” will be thorough, complete and with full
information. No one escapes, and no one shall avoid it. This is why
Jesus came. Rather than face “the judgment of God” on our
own, Jesus has faced “the wrath of God” for us when He
died on the cross. Now all that is necessary for our “salvation”
from God's “judgment” is to “believe and trust” in Him
and turn from our sinful ways. O'
that all who read these words would turn away from their “judging”
and storing up “wrath” against themselves and turn to Jesus who
is “the Savior” of the world.
Next
time Paul shares how
God will, “render
to every man according to his deeds”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
