Paul
the apostle told the church members in Rome,
“I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of
God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and
also to the Greek”,
and in chapter one and verse seventeen of Romans, Paul shared with
the church members about, “the
righteousness of God revealed”
where we read:
For
therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith:
as
it is written, The just shall live by faith.
The
verse begins, “For
therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith:”
Paul began with the word, “for”
or “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore”
“therein”
or “with and by the gospel” “is
the righteousness”
which means “the state of him who is as he ought to be and the
condition acceptable to God” “of
God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “revealed”
which means “uncovered, laid open, disclosed and made bare and
manifest” “from
faith”
or “out and away from the conviction that God exists and is the
creator and ruler of all things and the provider and bestower of
eternal salvation through Christ” “to
faith”
which means “the conviction that God exists and is the creator and
ruler of all things and the provider and bestower of eternal
salvation through Christ”. Paul shared how the “gospel”
of Jesus Christ demonstrates the “righteousness
of God”
which not only began with “faith”
but also finishes in
“faith”.
The
verse continues, “as
it is written, The just shall live by faith.” Paul
added the words, “as
it is written” which
means “in the manner it is delineated or formed in letters on a
tablet, parchment, paper or other material”, “the
just” which
refers to “the righteous and those observing divine laws who are
upright, virtuous and keep the commands of God” “shall
live”
which means “will breathe, be among the living and enjoy the true
real life” “by
faith”
or “through the conviction that God exists and is the creator and
ruler of all things and the provider and bestower of eternal
salvation through Christ”. Paul quoted Habakkuk chapter two and
verse four as evidence that God's righteousness is “revealed
from faith to faith”.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how he recognized how a
person receives the “righteousness of God”. “Faith”
or “trust and belief” in Jesus Christ's finished work on the
cross in death for the sin of mankind is necessary for “salvation”.
The “good news” is that the “price” for “sin” has been
paid in full by Jesus, and now all a person must do is “believe”
or have “faith” in Him. Habakkuk learned, “the just shall live
by his faith”, and Paul shared how the “gospel” is
received in the same manner. May all who read these words simply
“trust” that Jesus has died for their sins, was raised from the
dead three days later, and now sits in heaven with God Almighty the
Heavenly Father inviting them to “believe and trust” in Him.
Next
time Paul
shares with the church members how, “the
wrath of God is revealed from heaven”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
