Without Understanding and Covenant-breakers Romans 1:31

Paul the apostle told the church members in Rome about people to whom “God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;”, and “for this cause God gave them up unto vile affections” which included, “all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things” and “disobedient to parents”. In chapter one and verse thirty of Romans, Paul shared with the church members how these people also became, “without understanding, covenant-breakers” and more where we read:

Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

The verse begins, “Without understanding, covenant-breakers, ...” Paul began with the words, “without understanding” or “unintelligent and stupid” “covenant breakers” which means “not agreed, uncompounded, simple, treacherous to compacts and faithless”. Paul shared how these people were “stupid” and “treacherous to agreements and commitments” they previously made.

The verse goes on to say, “... without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful” Paul added the words, “without natural affection” or “unsociable and inhuman”, “implacable” which means “without a treaty or covenant, not mutually agreed upon and cannot be persuaded to enter into a covenant”, “unmerciful” or “merciless”. Those to whom Paul referred were “heartless, ruthless and without mercy” as well.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see even more “sins” committed by those who reject the “truth of God”. These wicked ways were consequences for their refusal to believe God for who He really is, and therefore they were “simple, faithless, unreliable to commitments, unsociable, resistant to covenants and merciless” with others. Jesus Christ came to save such as these, and all that is needed to alter their lives is to “believe and trust” in Him as their “Savior and Lord”. May all who read these words know and trust Jesus Christ the “Savior” for who He truly is - God.

Next time Paul tells the church members how these people, “not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
