The Promised Gospel Romans 1:2

Paul the apostle began his letter to the church in Rome by stating his name and declaring his position in God's kingdom with these words, “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God”, and in chapter one and verse two of Romans, Paul referred to an old testament scripture, (Which he had promised before by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) where we read:

(Which he had promised before by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

The verse begins, “which he had promised ...” Paul “which he had” which means “that God previously” “promised before” or “announced in advance and of old”. Paul referred to the way God previously “announced and declared” His “gospel”.

The verse continues, “... by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)”. Paul added the words, “by his prophets” which means “through, by reason, account and grounds of God's men filled with the Spirit of God who by God's authority and command in words of weight pleads the cause of God and urges salvation of men” “in the holy scriptures” or “with and through the pure, morally blameless and ceremonially consecrated writ, writings and documents”. Paul shared how the “previously announced declaration” of the “gospel” were declared by “God's prophets” within the “Holy” writings.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how he referenced the “Old Testament” declarations shared by God's “prophets” concerning His “gospel”. In other words, the “gospel of Jesus Christ” was pre-ordained by God, and He not only fulfilled those prophesies, but used Paul the apostle to share them with others. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, and He died for their sins and rose from the grave to prove His power over death which is the penalty for sin. This has been God's “salvation” plan promised through the prophets of old to the current day, and those who are wise shall receive Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” and accept the promise of God's “good news”.

Next time Paul continues his introduction to the church in Rome as he makes a declaration, “Concerning” God's “Son Jesus Christ our Lord”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
