Tribulation and Anguish Upon Evil Ones Romans 2:9

Paul the apostle told the church members in Rome how God, “ will render to every man according to his deeds”, and he added, “To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life, but unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath”. In chapter two and verse nine of Romans, Paul shared about, “tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil” where we read:

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil,
of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

The verse begins, “Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, ...” Paul began with the word, “tribulation” which means “oppression, affliction, straits and distress” “and anguish” which means “dire calamity and extreme affliction”, “upon every soul” or “on each, every, the whole, all and everyone's seat of the feelings, desires, affections and aversions” “of man” which refers to “human beings whether male or female” “that does evil” or “who performs, accomplishes and achieves base, wrong, wickedness, injury, pernicious destruction and baneful”. The consequences for people who practice “wickedness” was “oppression, distress, dire calamity and extreme affliction”.

The verse continues, “... of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;” Paul added the words, “of the Jew” which means “the person who belongs to the Jewish nation as respects to birth, origin and religion” “first” or “in chief and principal place”, “and also” which means “and even so and indeed” “of the Gentile” or “the name that embraces all nations not Jews that made the language, customs, and learning of the Greeks their own”. Paul shared how these “consequences” were toward “Jewish” people first and then toward everyone else.

When we consider words of Paul, we see how there were “troublesome” effects toward people who practiced “evil”, and they were to Jew and non-Jew alike. Although these results were to the entire human race, Jesus Christ came to “save” people from “tribulation and anguish”. By paying the price for the “wicked ways” of mankind, Jesus forged “the way” to a relationship with God the Father. Now all who put their faith and trust in Him shall avoid the consequences of their “sins” and enjoy everlasting life with God in heaven.

Next time Paul shares about, “glory, honor, and peace”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
