Paul
the apostle told the church members in Rome,
“the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even
his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse”,
and he added, “Because
that, when they knew God, they glorified him
not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their
imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
In chapter one and verse twenty-two of Romans, Paul told with the
church members, how “foolish”
these
were who “profess
themselves to be wise”
where we read:
Professing
themselves to be wise, they became fools,
The
verse begins, “Professing
themselves to be wise, ...”
Paul began with the words, “professing
themselves”
or “affirming, alleging and portending”
“to be wise”
or “as skilled and expert in letters, cultivated and learned”.
The people who rejected God referred to themselves as being “wise”
or “cultivated and learned” people.
The
verse continues, “...
they became fools” Paul
added the word, “they”
which
refers to “the people who professed themselves to be wise”
“became
fools” or
“were made insipid and as a simpleton”. Paul said these who
proclaimed “wise”
ways were made to be as “simpletons”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see a major difference in
the way these who rejected God saw themselves and the way they
actually were. Though they had the “wisdom” of the world and were
educated, they were as “imbeciles”. Jesus Christ came into the
world to save every person who believes and trusts in Him, however,
if they think themselves more “wise” than to believe in
the Heavenly Father and receive Jesus Christ as their personal
“Savior and Lord”, they become as “fools”.
Next
time Paul
tells the church members about how these unbelievers, “change
the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to
corruptible man”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
