A Prosperous Journey Romans 1:10

Paul the apostle declared to whom this letter was written, “God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers”, and in chapter one and verse ten of Romans Paul prayed that he, “might have a prosperous journey by the will of God” where we read:

Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey
by the will of God to come unto you.

The verse begins, “Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey ...” Paul began with the words, “making request” or “Paul desired, longed for, asked and begged”, “if by any means” or “if indeed, since and after all” “now at length” which means “at this time and moment formerly, beforetime and at some time” “I might have a prosperous journey” or “that Paul might be granted an expeditious, successful, direct and easy way”. Paul desired that he might be granted an “expeditious and successful” “journey” to Rome.

The verse continues, “... by the will of God to come unto you.”. Paul added the words, “by the will” which means “through the purpose, wish, command and precepts” “of God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “to come” or “to arise, arrive and appear” “unto you” which means “to the church members in Rome”. Paul depended upon the “desire and will” of God Almighty as to whether he would visit Rome or not.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how he “desired” to go to Rome, but deferred his “will” to the “will of God”. Though he prayed that he might travel to see them, Paul knew God's will was best for him. Jesus Christ desires to have a relationship with everyone, and when a person receives Him, He becomes “Lord” of their life. In other words, “prosperous journeys” and every other venture are submitted to the “will of the Lord”, and there is no better place in which to trust their way.

Next time Paul tells the church members in Rome that he longs, “to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
