Nothing Against the Truth 2 Corinthians 13:8

Paul the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth, “I pray to God that you do no evil;”, and he added, “but that you should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.” In chapter thirteen and verse eight of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members to, “we can do nothing against the truth” where we read:

For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
The verse begins, “For we can do nothing against the truth,...Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “we can do nothing” which means “Paul and his companions were not capable or able to do one certain thing or anything” “against” or “down from, through out, according to, toward or along” “the truth” which refers to “what is true in any matter under consideration, in reality, fact and certainly”. Paul declared he and his companions were not “capable” of doing “anything” against what is “true and factual”.

The verse goes on to say, ...but for the truth. Paul continued with the word, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “for the truth” which means “in behalf and for the sake of what is true in any matter under consideration, in reality, fact and certainly”. Paul knew he and his companions could not do “anything” “against the truth”, however, they could do much “for what is true and real”.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how the effect of he and his companions “against the truth” was “none at all”, however, they could promote and advance it. Jesus Christ proclaimed, “I am the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6), and when Paul and his companions spoke of Jesus, they advanced “the truth”. All who come to Jesus and receive Him as Savior and Lord know “the truth”, and they too can do things “for the truth”. May all who read these words know and advance “the truth” that is in Jesus Christ.

Next time Paul tells the church members his desire when he and his companions, “are weak, and” the church members “are strong, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
