Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you”, and in chapter six and verse fifteen of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “if you forgive not men … neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” where we read:
But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
The verse reads, “But if you forgive not men their trespasses, ...” Matthew began with the word, “but” which means “moreover and” “if you forgive not men” or “whether the disciples do not send away, depart, yield up, expire and disregard” “their trespasses” which means “people whether male or female falls, lapses, deviations from truth and uprightness and misdeeds”. Jesus warned the disciples concerning not “forgiving” other people's “lapses and misdeeds”.
The verse goes on to say, “... neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew continued with the words, “neither will” or “not and in no way shall”“your heavenly Father” which means “the disciples' celestial generator and originator who is God” “forgive” or “send away, depart, yield up, expire and disregard” “your trespasses” which refers to “the disciples' falls, lapses, deviations from truth and uprightness and misdeeds”. Jesus declared that God will not “forgive” the disciples' “lapses and misdeeds” if the disciples did not “forgive” other people.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we discover a great warning to the disciples of Jesus Christ. If they did not “forgive” other people, they would not be “forgiven” by the “Heavenly Father”. In other words, “forgiveness” of others is imperative if they wanted to be “forgiven” themselves. God is a “forgiving” God, and He desires for us to be like Him. “Forgive” and be “forgiven”. Otherwise “forgiveness” will be estranged to those who refuse.
Next time Jesus shares with His disciples concerning, “when you fast”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
