Depart to the Other Side Matthew 8:18

Matthew shared, “when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.” He continued, “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses”, and in chapter eight and verse eighteen of his book, Matthew shared what Jesus did when He, “saw great multitudes about him” where we read:

Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.

The verse reads, Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, ... Matthew began with the words, “now” or “moreover and” “when Jesus” which means “at the time and moment Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “saw great multitudes” or “perceived, noticed, discerned and discovered many, much and large amounts of people” “about him” which means “surrounding and near Jesus”. Jesus observed the large group of people who once again were surrounding Him.

The verse continues, “... he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.” Matthew added the words, “he gave commandment” or “Jesus ordered, bid and incited” “to depart” which means “go away in order to follow any one” “unto the other side” or “toward the farther and beyond them”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples to cross to the other side of the lake from where they were located.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was conscience of the large groups of people who were gathering around Him. His fame was rising as He not only taught in a way they had never heard, but also was able to “heal and cure” sick people and cast “demons” out of those who were possessed. God desires people to have a relationship with Him through Jesus, and He will be conscience of them like He was this crowd of people. The question becomes, “Will be be one who follows Him?” May the decision be to yield to Him today and receive Him as “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Matthew shares how, “a certain scribe cameto Jesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
