Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof”, and he continued with the words, “Judge not, that you be not judged.” In chapter seven and verse two of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged” where we read:
For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged:
and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.
The verse reads, “For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged:” Matthew began with the word, “for” or “because, since and on account of” “with what judgment” which means “along the same decree, condemnation of wrong, passing on the faults of others, punishment, condemnatory sentence and penal damnation” “you judge” or “the disciples esteem, resolve, decree and pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong” as to condemn, “you shall be judged” or “the disciples will be esteemed, resolved, decreed and pronounced an opinion concerning right and wrong” toward condemnation. Jesus told His disciples they would receive the same condemnation according to the way they condemn others in “judgment”.
The verse continues, “and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.” Matthew added the words, “and with what measure” or “along the same instrument the disciples measure, rule and determine the portion of and limit” “you mete” which means “the disciples measure, give, estimate and apportion”, “it shall be measured” or “the same will be measured, given, estimated and apportioned” “to you” which means “toward the disciples” “again” or “in return or as in repayment”. Jesus told His disciples the “measure” or “standard” to which they hold others shall be the “measure” or “standard” by which they are held..
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus provided the reason the disciples were not to “judge” others. If they did so, they would be “judged” themselves, and He told them they would be “measured” or “apportioned” according to the way they “measured” other people. God desires a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, all who read His words should take heed before they “judge” and “measure” someone else.
Next time Jesus asks His disciples, “why do you behold the mote that is in your brother's eye” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
