Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things”, and in chapter six and verse thirty-three of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” where we read:
But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you.
The verse reads, “But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;” Matthew began with the word, “but” which means “moreover and” “seek you first” or “search in order to find by meditating, reasoning, aiming for and striving after” “the kingdom” which means “the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “of God” or “pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “and his righteousness” which means “and God's state that a person ought to be which is approved by Him, integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness and correct way of thinking and feeling”. Jesus told His disciples to make “God's kingdom” and His right way of acting as their “primary” focus in life.
The verse continues, “and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew added the words, “and all” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of” “these things” which means “things pertaining to eating, drinking and clothing” “shall be added” or “will be joined, proceeded further, gathered and increased” “unto you” which means “toward the disciples”. Jesus told His disciples that “all” of the things related to “eating, drinking and clothing” would be increased in their lives as they made God's kingdom and righteousness first.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see a promise of Jesus within His words. Jesus promised that “all these things” which refers to the matters of “eating, drinking and clothing” would be added to His disciples as they sought “the Kingdom of God” and God's “righteousness” “first” in their lives. In other words, the priority of the disciples of Jesus Christ's life is to be “God's Kingdom” and His righteous way of living. God desires to have a family of people who seek after His Kingdom first in their lives, and as they align with His righteous ways, He promises them provision for all their physical needs.
Next time Jesus repeats to His disciples, “therefore take no thought for your life” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
