Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof”, and in chapter seven and verse one of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “judge not” where we read:
Judge not, that you be not judged.
The verse reads, “Judge not, ...” Matthew began with the words, “judge” or “to esteem, resolve, decree and pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong as to condemn” “not” which means “no, not in any way”. Jesus told His disciples not to “pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong” so as to condemn someone.
The verse goes on to say “... that you be not judged.” Matthew continued with the words, “that you” or “so the disciples would” “be not judged” which means “be esteemed, resolved, decreed and have an opinion pronounced concerning right and wrong” as to condemn. Jesus told His disciples judging others would bring judgment upon themselves, and this was the reason they were not to “judge” to condemn.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus desired for His disciples to handle situations and people who might be “judged”. Jesus' words were not to “judge” at all, and His reason was so the disciples would not be “judged” in return. Jesus has more to say about this subject, but suffice it to say God desires to have a relationship with every person according to His ways, and when they yield their lives to Him in submission, their “judgment” toward others will be according to His design.
Next time Jesus tells His disciples, “with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
