Jesus Will Heal the Centurion's Servant Matthew 8:7

Matthew shared how Jesus completed the Sermon on the Mount, and When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshiped him, saying, Lord, if you will, you can make me clean. And Jesus said unto him, See you tell no man; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him. And saying, Lord, my servant lies at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.” In chapter eight and verse seven of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus answered the centurion, “I will come and heal him” where we read:

And Jesus said unto him, I will come and heal him.

The verse reads, And Jesus said unto him, ... Matthew began with the words, “and Jesus said” or “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto him” which refers to “the centurion”. After hearing the request of the centurion, Jesus made a proclamation to him.

The verse goes on to say, ... I will come and heal him.” Matthew added the words, “I will come” or “Jesus will arise, come forth, show Himself and find place or influence” “and heal him” which means “cure and restore the centurion's servant to health”. Jesus declared that He would leave where He was, go to the centurion's house, and restore his “servant” back to health.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we notice the willingness of Jesus to heal and restore the centurion's servant. Jesus answered this “Gentile” centurion right away, and told him He would go to his house to “heal” his servant. God the Father waits for people to reach out to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they do, He is willing to respond to them whether they be Jew or Gentile.

Next time Matthew shares how the centurion said to Jesus, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
