Glory in the Lord 2 Corinthians 10:17

Paul the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth that he and his companions were, To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand., and in chapter ten and verse seventeen of Second Corinthians, Paul pleads with the church members “as we are in word by letters...such will we be also in deed where we read:

But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord.

The verse begins, But he that glories,...” Paul began with the words, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “he that glories” or “the person who vaunts and rejoices”. Paul addressed the person who “boasts or rejoices”.

The verse goes on to say, “...let him glory in the Lord.” Paul continued with the word, “let him” which means “allow and permit that person to” “glory” or “vaunt and glory” “in the Lord” which means “in the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”. Paul exhorted the person who “boasts” to “boast and glory” in God.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we note how he addressed the person who “boasts” and “glories”. If there is ever to be “boasting”, it is to be “in the Lord” and not in anyone else. Jesus Christ deserves all the glory for everything concerning the “gospel”, and He alone is responsible for the “salvation” of people. No one “saves” themselves, and all who come to Him He is willing and able to save. If there is to be any “boasting”, let it be in the Lord and Him alone.

Next time we end the chapter by seeing Paul tell the church members, “for not he that commends himself is approved”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
