Preaching Another Jesus 2 Corinthians 11:4

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth that he “feared”, “lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”, and in chapter eleven and verse four of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members what they would do with,“he that comes” and “preaches another Jesus where we read:

For if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with him.

The verse begins, For if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, ...” Paul began with the words, “for if he that comes” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore whether a person who arrives and appears” “preaches” or “heralds, proclaims and publishes publicly” “another Jesus” which means “a different savior, Son of God, and God incarnate”, “whom we have not preached” or “who Paul and his companions did not herald, proclaim and publish publicly”, “or if you receive” which means “of if the church members take, hold and carry away” “another spirit” or “a different spirit higher than man but lower than God like an angel” “which you have not received” which means “that the church members did not take, hold or carry away”. Paul considered what would happen with the church members if someone began to promote “another Jesus” or “another spirit” which was never “proclaimed” by he or his companions.

The verse continues, “... or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with him.” Paul added the words, “or another gospel” which refers to “or a different good news and glad tidings”, “which you have not accepted” or “that the church members had not taken, held or carried away” “you might well bear” which means “the church members might sustain, bear and endure” “with him” or “with the different person who shared with them”. Paul added, “another gospel” to his list of things that might be acceptable to the church members.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how he addressed “false doctrine” that was presented to the church in Corinth. He surmised if there was a “different” “Jesus, spirit and gospel”, the Corinthian believers would “receive” them. Though they sometimes rejected Paul who had the message of the true gospel, these “believers” would accept someone else's doctrine. Jesus Christ came as “the way, the truth and the life”, and all who come to Him shall continue in the “doctrine” He has provided to people.

Next time Paul tells the church members that he was not inferior to, “the very chiefest apostles.”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
