A Remnant According to the Election of Grace Romans 11:5

Paul the apostle told the people in Rome how Elijah asked, “what says the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Lord, they have killed your prophets, and dug down your altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life”, and in chapter eleven and verse four of Romans, Paul referred to how Elijah said, “there is a remnant according to the election of grace” where we read:

Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
The verse begins, Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant ...Paul began with the word, “even so” which means “also and indeed” “then” or “therefore, wherefore consequently and accordingly” “at this present time” which refers to “right now and in due measure” “also” which means “even so and indeed” “there is a remnant” or “there exists a remainder”. Paul shared how at the “current time” there “exists” a “remainder” of people who have not bowed down in worship to anyone other than God Almighty through Jesus His Son.

The verse goes on to say, “... according to the election of grace. Paul added the words, “according” which means “down from, throughout, toward and along” “to the election or “the picking out and choosing” “of grace” which means “pertaining to that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness and unmerited favor”. Paul shared how these whom God “chose” as His “remnant” were because of the outpouring of His “unmerited favor”.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how God has “chosen” people because of His great and abundant “grace”. God desires for everyone to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ, and when a person receives Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they are “elected” by Him for all of eternity. Those who read these words should desire a relationship with God, and when they accept Him, they are welcomed among the “elected” few.

Next time Paul tells his readers, “and if by grace, then is it no more of works, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
