Three Questions Concerning the Gospel Romans 10:14

Paul the apostle told the people in Rome, “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”, and in chapter ten and verse fourteen of Romans, Paul asked three questions concerning people receiving the gospel of Jesus Christ where we read:

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
The verse begins, How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?Paul began with the words, “how then” which means “in what way therefore, wherefore, accordingly, consequently and these things being so” “shall they call” which means “will people be able to appeal and summon” “on him” or “on Jesus Christ” “in whom they have not believed” which means “in Jesus whom they have not thought to be true, are persuaded of, credit and place confidence in”. Paul question how people were expected to “appeal” to Jesus Christ if they have never “believed” in Him.

The verse goes on to say, “and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? Paul continued with the words, “and how” which means “and in what way” “shall they believe” which means “will people think to be true, be persuaded of, credit and place confidence in” “of whom” or “pertaining to Jesus” “they have not heard” which means “which the people have not given audience to, understood or perceived”?. Paul further questioned how people were to “have faith and trust in” Jesus if they have never “heard” of Him.

Finally the verse says, “and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Paul added these words, “and how” or “and in what way” “shall they hear” which means “will people be able to give audience to, understand or perceive” “without a preacher” which refers to “not having one who heralds, proclaims or publishes”. Paul continued his questioning with the continuum which considers in what way people are to “give audience” to Jesus if no one ever tells them about Him.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how each of his questions leads to the next. The way people learn about God's plan of salvation and Jesus Christ His son is by someone telling them. They “hear” the “gospel” and afterward, they may “believe” on Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”. God desires for every person to “hear” His “good news” and “believe” it, and those who are wise shall “hear”, “believe”, receive and “proclaim” Jesus Christ today.

Next time we see Paul asks his readers, “How shall they preach, except they be sent?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
