The End of the Law for Righteousness Romans 10:4

Paul the apostle told the people in Rome, “they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God”, and in chapter ten and verse four of Romans, Paul told his readers, “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness” where we read:

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes.
The verse begins, For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness, ...Paul began with the words, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “Christ” or “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God” “is the end” which means “the termination or limit at which a thing ceases to be and the last in any succession or series” “of the law” or “pertaining to the rule producing a state approved of God” “for righteousness” or “toward the state of him who is as he ought to be and the condition acceptable to God”. Paul declared that Jesus Christ “finished and completed” “God's law” and lived in “the state of him who is as he ought to be”.

The verse goes on to say, “... to every one that believes. Paul added the words, “to every one” which means “to each, all, the whole and everyone” “that believes” which means “who thinks to be true, is be persuaded of, credits and place confidence in Jesus Christ”. Paul shared how people who “believe and trust” in Jesus Christ receive the “righteousness” which is in “God's law”.

When we think through these words of Paul, we learn that when Jesus came, He fulfilled the “law of God” “for righteousness”. Therefore, He became the “end of” that “law”, and now every person who “believes in, trusts in, relies upon and clings to” Jesus enjoy the “end of” that “law” themselves. “The law of God” is perfect, and yet, people could not and cannot keep His “law”. However, Jesus did, and now belief and trust in Him as a personal “Savior and Lord” causes a person to be “saved” from the “law's” penalty. Let all who read these words realize that Jesus Christ has “fulfilled” and made “an end of the law for righteousness” and simply put their faith and trust in Him.

Next time we see Paul tell his readers how, “Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
