God Made Them Male and Female - Matthew 19:4

Matthew the apostle wrote, The Pharisees also came unto” Jesus” tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?”, and in chapter nineteen and verse four of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus said God, “at the beginning made them male and female” where we read:

And he answered and said unto them, Have you not read,

that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

The verse reads, And he answered and said unto them, Have you not read, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and he answered” or “and Jesus responded and began to speak” “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to the Pharisees”, “have you not read” which means “have the Pharisees not recognized, distinguished, known accurately and acknowledged”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to the scriptures as He began to respond to the Pharisee's question.

The verse goes on to say, “... that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,” Matthew added the words, “that he” or “because and since God the Creator” “which made them” which means “who produced, created, rendered and made people” “at the beginning” or “from the origin, extremity of a thing and in the first estate” “made them” which means “produced, created, rendered and made people”” “male and female” or “man and woman”. Matthew wrote how Jesus referred to the origin of people when God made them “men and women”.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus referred to the scriptures to answer the Pharisees question concerning divorce. He began by establishing the original creation of men and women by God, and from that basis He declared how to manage marriage and divorce. God desires people to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and since God is the Creator of men and women, He knows what is best for their lives. May all who read these words consider Creator God and His perfect plan for managing a person's life.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus continued to answer the Pharisees' question, “for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
