Jesus' Disciples Obey Him - Matthew 21:6

Matthew the apostle wrote, “And when they drew near unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway you shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say ought unto you, you shall say, The Lord has need of them; and straightway he will send them. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell you the daughter of Sion, Behold, your King comes unto you, meek, and sitting upon a donkey, and a colt the foal of a donkey”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse six of his book, Matthew shares how, “the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded” where we read:

And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

The verse reads, And the disciples went, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and the disciples” or “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “went” which means “left and departed”. Matthew shared how Jesus' “disciples” left to do what He said.

The verse goes on to say, “... and did as Jesus commanded them,” Matthew continued with the words, “and did” or “and produced, made ready and prepared” “as Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “commanded them” or “assigned, ascribed, enjoined, prescribed and appointed to the disciples”. Matthew wrote how the “disciples” obeyed Jesus and “did” as He told them to do. .

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we acknowledge the obedience of Jesus' “disciples”. Jesus gave His “disciples” instructions from time to time, and unless they obeyed, what He requested would not have been done by them. God has His purposes and plan for the “salvation” of man, and He uses people to carry out His will. If they “obey” His “commands” as these “disciples”, He will continue to use them. If they do not “obey”, He will use someone else. God desires to save every person through a relationship with His Son Jesus, and all who come to Him in “obedience” He will “save”. May all who read these words “obey” the “command” of the Lord.

Next time Matthew shares how the disciples, “brought the donkey, and the colt”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
