What Do You Want Me to Do? - Matthew 20:32

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus and His disciples, departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, you Son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, you Son of David”, and in chapter twenty and verse thirty-two of his book, Matthew shares how, “Jesus stood still, and called them” where we read:

And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will you that I shall do unto you?

The verse reads, And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and Jesus” or “and Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “stood still” which means “caused Himself to be fix and established in one place”, “and called them” or “and summoned, bid and beckoned the two blind men”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Matthew shared how Jesus stopped in His tracks, addressed the “blind men”.

The verse goes on to say, What will you that I shall do unto you?” Matthew continued with the words, “what will you or “what do the two blind men want” “that I shall do” which means “what do the two blind men desire that Jesus make ready, prepare and produce” “unto you” or “for the two blind men”? Matthew wrote how Jesus asked the “two blind men” what they wanted Him to “do” for them.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus took the time to ask the “two blind men” what they wanted Him to do. Though He being God already knew their desires, He was willing to invite them to tell Him what they wanted. God loves to relate to people through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, His ear is open to their call. May all who read these words submit themselves to Jesus and listen for His invitation to tell Him their desires.

Next time Matthew writes how the blind men respond, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
