Is Jesus the King of the Jews? - Mark 15:2

Mark wrote how the “high priests” and “religious leaders” captured Jesus and tried Him in the evening. They condemned Jesus to death, and “in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate”, and in chapter fifteen and verse two of his book, Mark shared how Pilate asked Jesus, “are you the King of the Jews?” where we read:

And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, You said it.

The verse reads, “And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews?”. Mark began with the words, “And Pilate” which means “and the sixth Roman procurator of Judah and Samaria who ordered Christ to be crucified and whose name means armed with a spear” “asked him” or “inquired of and questioned Jesus”, “Are you” which means “do you, Jesus, exist as” “the King of the Jews” or “the leader, prince, commander and lord pertaining to the people who belong to the Jewish nation as respect to birth, origin and religion”. Mark shared how Pilate questioned Jesus as to whether He was “the Ruling Leader of the Jewish Nation”.

The verse continues, “And he answering said unto him, You said it. Mark added the words, “and he answering” which means “and Jesus beginning to speak and responding” “said unto him” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming to Pilate”, “You said it” which means “You, Pilate, have affirmed, maintained and spoken that Jesus is the King of the Jews”. Mark shared how Jesus told Pilate that the words he declared were indeed the case. Jesus is the King of the Jews.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see the beginning of the interrogation of Jesus by Pilate. Pilate's question concerned what Jesus thought His position of authority was with the Jewish people. Though they did not realize or understand it, Jesus is the King of the Jews, and Pilate only confirmed it with his words. Jesus is God come in the flesh and is the ultimate Ruler over everyone and everything. He came to the earth to die for the sins of mankind so they would have an opportunity to live with God forever. Those who are wise recognize Jesus as the King and Lord of their lives while they are living, but this we know for sure, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. (See Philippians 2:10-11)

Next time Mark shares how “the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
