Jesus Affirms He is the Christ - Mark 14:62

Mark wrote how men captured Jesus and led Him to be tried before the religious leaders. After many false witnesses came before them to testify, Mark shared how, “the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answer you nothing? what is it which these witness against you? But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”, and in chapter fourteen and verse sixty-two of his book, Mark shared how “Jesus said, I am” where we read:

And Jesus said, I am: and you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power,

and coming in the clouds of heaven.

The verse reads, “And Jesus said, I am: and you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, ...”. Mark began with the words, “and Jesus said” which means “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “I am” or “I, myself, Jesus exist, happen and am present to be”: “and you shall see” which means “and the religious leaders will observe, perceive, notice, discern and discover” “the Son of man” or “the Son of God” “sitting on the right hand of power” which means “seated upon God's right hand which signifies strength, might, virtue and ability”. Mark shared how Jesus answered the “high priest” by declaring Himself to be the “Messiah” as well as the “Son of God”, and He informed the “high priest” and the “religious leaders” that they would “see” Him seated at God's “right hand” of authority.

The verse goes on to say, “... and coming in the clouds of heaven. Mark continued with the words, “and coming” which means “and appearing, arising and coming forth” “in the clouds” or “within the clouds” “of heaven” which refers to “the arial heavens or sky which is the region where the clouds and tempest gather and where thunder and lightning are produced”. Mark shared how Jesus said He would be “ascending or appearing” in the “clouds” in the sky.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus affirmed that He is indeed the “Messiah, the Christ and the Son of God”, and He told the high priest and religious leaders they would see Him “sitting” on God's right side where His power and authority rests. He also told them they would “see” Him “coming in the clouds” as He returns to the earth someday. Jesus knew who He was, where He would be and what He would do, and there was nothing these accusers could do about it. Jesus was determined to offer “salvation” to mankind by enduring this trial, His subsequent suffering and His death on the cross so people could be forgiven of their sins and live forever with God. Those who are wise will consider carefully who Jesus said He is, where He sits and that He is “coming in the clouds” and yield their lives to the only One who is able to offer them eternal salvation.

Next time Mark shares how “the high priest rent his clothes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
