Jesus Crucified with Two Thieves - Mark 15:27

Mark wrote when they crucified Jesus, “they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-seven of his book, Mark shared “with him they crucify two thieves” where we read:

And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

The verse reads, “And with him they crucify two thieves;”. Mark began with the words, “and with him” which means “and alongside Jesus” “they crucified two thieves” or “the Roman soldiers drove down two robbers, plunderers, freebooters and brigands with stakes, palisade, destroyed in the flesh and power and extinguished completely”. Mark shared how “two robbers” were “crucified” with Jesus.

The verse goes on to say, “the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. Mark continued with the words, “the one” which means “a certain and particular one of the thieves” “on his right hand” or “on Jesus' right hand side”, “and the other on his left” which means “and the other thief on Jesus' left hand side”. Mark shared how the “two thieves” were “crucified” next to Jesus with one of them being on His “right” side, and the other one on His “left” side.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we discover another fulfillment of the prophecy concerning Jesus and His death. Isaiah the prophet wrote, “... he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors”. (See Isaiah 53:12), and since He was “crucified” with “two thieves” at His right and left sides, Jesus aligned with the prophecy concerning the “Messiah” and “Christ” of God. God loves people so much that He predicted in advance that His Son Jesus would be “crucified” and “die” with “transgressors”, and because He wants people to live with Him forever, He allowed Jesus to pay the price for their sins. Those who are wise will carefully consider God's prophesy and fulfillment concerning His Son Jesus and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus fulfilled the scripture, “and he was numbered with the transgressors” with Jesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
