Peter, You were with Jesus - Mark 14:67

Mark wrote, “as Peter was beneath in the palace, there came one of the maids of the high priest”, and in chapter fourteen and verse sixty-seven of his book, Mark shared how the “maid”, “saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth” where we read:

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him,

and said, And you also were with Jesus of Nazareth.

The verse reads, “And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, ...”. Mark began with the words, “And when” which means “and at the time and moment” “she saw Peter” or “the young female servant of the high priest observed, noticed, discerned and discovered Jesus' disciple Peter whose name means a little rock or stone” “warming himself” which means “heating his own body”, “she looked upon him” or “the young female servant of the high priest turned her eyes upon Peter with the mind to consider him”. Mark shared how the “high priest's” “young female servant” noticed Peter getting warm by the fire and “turned her eyes upon him”.

The verse continues, “... and said, And you also were with Jesus of Nazareth. Mark added the words, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “and you also were with Jesus” or “and you, speaking to Peter, were even so and indeed alongside Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “of Nazareth” which means “from the city of Nazareth which means a watch tower and was a small village in lower Galilee”. Mark shared how the “young female servant” of the “high priest” told Peter that he was even so alongside “Jesus” who was from “Nazareth”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how this “little girl” accused Peter of being with Jesus whom she knew was from “Nazareth” in “Galilee”. God knew Peter would be at this “fire” warming himself, and He allowed this “young maiden” to be part of the fulfillment of Jesus' words about Peter denying that he knew Jesus. God is omniscient and knows where every person is. He is able to send unsuspecting individuals like this “young servant girl” to expose them for their non-allegiance to His Son Jesus. His desire is to save everyone who will “believe and trust” in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and if need be, He is able to send someone into their life to expose what they are really like inside.

Next time Mark shares how Peter, “denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what you say”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
