A Man that is Called Jesus Made Clay - John 9:11

The apostle John wrote,as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. The neighbors therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. Therefore said they unto him, How were your eyes opened?, and in chapter nine and verse eleven of his book John shared how the formally blind man said, “a man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes” where we read:

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

The verse reads, “He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me ... John began with the words, “He answered and said” which means “the blind man responded and began to speak and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “a man that is called Jesus” or “a male human being whose name is Jesus which means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “made clay” which means “produced and made ready wet mud”, “and anointed my eyes” or “and spread or smeared the mud over my, the blind man's, physical eyes”, “and said unto me” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. John shared how the formally blind man began to share how Jesus made mud, smeared it upon his eyes, and instructed him as follows.

The verse continues, “... Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. John added the words, “Go to the pool” which means “depart, leave and go forth to the place for diving, the reservoir for bathing and the swimming hole” “of Siloam” or “belonging to Siloam which means sent and was a fountain of water in Jerusalem also called Shiloah”, “and wash” which means “and perform ablution or cleanse”: “and I went” or “and I, the formally blind man, left and departed” “and washed” which means “and performed ablution or cleansed”, “and I received sight” or “and I, the formally blind man, looked up and acquired vision and the ability to see”. John shared how the “formally blind man” told of Jesus' instruction to “cleanse” himself in the “pool of Siloam” by “washing”, and when he obeyed, the “blind man” was able to see.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how the “blind man” who was now able to see relayed his story to those who wondered how this miracle was possible. Jesus was the answer to this man's “sight” problem, and He is the answer to everyone's problem who is unable to “spiritually see”. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to save people from their wickedness and sin, and when they yield their lives to Him in obedience to His instructions, they will no longer be “spiritually blind” but will “see” as God desires. Those who are wise will carefully study this wonderful miracle of Jesus and realize He continues to make the blind see even unto this day.

Next time John shares how the neighbors ask the formally blind man says, “where is he?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
