The apostle John wrote how Jesus told the people who believed on Him, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham's seed; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do that which you have seen with your father. They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said unto them, If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham”, and in chapter eight and verse forty of his book John shared how Jesus told the religious leaders, “now you seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth” where we read:
But now you seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth, which I have heard of God:
this did not Abraham.
The verse reads, “But now you seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth, which I have heard of God:” John began with the words, “But now you seek” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at this time you, Jewish people and religious leaders, desire, crave, require and demand” “to kill me” or “to inflict mortal death upon, eliminate and destroy me, Jesus”, “a man that has told you” which means “a male human being who has uttered, declared and proclaimed to the Jewish people and religious leaders” “the truth” or “that which is true, in reality and fact”, “which I have heard of God” which means “that I, Jesus, have been given the endowment for hearing, perceiving and understanding that which pertains to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how Jesus told the “Jewish people and religious leaders” that they “desired to kill” Him, even though He had declared to them the “truthful sayings” and declarations from God.
The verse goes on to say, “this did not Abraham.” John continued with the words, “this did not” which means “going about and desiring to kill Jesus was not performed by” “Abraham” ,whose name means “father of a multitude” and was the founder of the Jewish nation, performed and produced. John shared how Jesus told the “Jewish people and the religious leaders” that “Abraham” did not desire to “kill” Him.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus declared that the “Jewish people and religious leaders” wanted to “kill” Him even though He shared the “truth of God” with them. He referred to their “Father Abraham” was employed by God to be the “Father” of the nation of Israel, but He never sought to “kill” Jesus. Jesus “heard” directly from His Father God, and His plan of “salvation” was to be shared with everyone. Anyone who believes and trusts in Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and be granted everlasting life with God. Let the “truth of God” shared through Jesus and believed by “Abraham” be received into the hearts of every person reading these words.
Next time John shares how Jesus told the religious leaders, “you do the deeds of your father” and they tell him “we are not born of fornication”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
