The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, they say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what say you? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst”, and in chapter eight and verse ten of his book John shared how Jesus asked the woman, “where are those your accusers” where we read:
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those your accusers? has no man condemned you?
The verse reads, “When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those your accusers?” John began with the words, “When Jesus” which means “at the time and moment the Son of God, the Savior of the world and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “had lifted up himself” or “arose”, “and saw none but the woman” which means “and observed, noticed, discovered and discerned not any other person with the exception of the female human being who was caught in adultery”, “he said unto her” or “Jesus uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked”, “woman” which means “female human being”, “where are those your accusers” or “in what place exist the people who are complaining against the woman”? John shared how Jesus stood up and noticed that no one else other than the “woman who was caught in adultery” were present, so He asked her “where” the people were who brought a “complaint” against her.
The verse continues, “has no man condemned you?” John added the words, “has no man” which means “is there not a person who has” “condemned you” or “brought judgment against, judged worthy of punishment and presented a sentence against you, woman who was caught in adultery”? John shared how Jesus asked the woman whether there was any person who was bringing “judgment” against her.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was the only person left with the woman who was caught in adultery. All the others left when they were convicted of their own personal sins, and because no one else was there, Jesus asked the woman where her “accusers” were. Of course, they were all gone, and no one except Jesus was left to “judge” the woman. God knows the sins of every person, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Those who are wise will see themselves in the position of this woman, be humble and receive the grace that only Jesus can provide.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells the woman, “neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
