The apostle John wrote how Jesus told the people who were questioning and challenging Him, “You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, you believe me not. Which of you convinces me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do you not believe me?”, and in chapter eight and verse forty-seven of his book John shared how Jesus told the religious leaders, “He that is of God hears God's words” where we read:
He that is of God hears God's words: you therefore hear them not, because you are not of God.
The verse reads, “He that is of God hears God's words:” John began with Jesus' words, “He that is of God” which means “the person whether male or female who belongs to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “hears God's words” or “is endowed with the faculty of hearing, perceiving, noticing and discerning the speech, discourse and narration belonging to the Godhead and trinity”. John shared how Jesus told the people questioning Him that people who belong to “God” actually “perceive and discern” His “speech and narration” of ideas.
The verse goes on to say, “you therefore hear them not, because you are not of God.” John continued with Jesus' words, “you therefore” which means “you, religious leaders questioning Jesus, then, wherefore and these things being so” “hear them not” or “are not endowed with the faculty of hearing, perceiving, noticing and discerning the speech and ideas belonging to God”, “because you are not of God” which means “since and on account that you, religious leaders, do not belong to the Godhead and trinity”. John shared how Jesus spoke directly to the fact that these “religious leaders” could not “hear” God's words because they were not in a personal relationship with Him.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we discover how it was impossible for the religious leaders who were questioning Jesus to “hear” “God's words” because they had no relationship with Him. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and this happens when a person believes and trusts in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Without the relationship with God's Son Jesus, a person cannot truly hear the “words” of God. Those who are wise will carefully consider these words of Jesus and humble themselves before the Lord and yield their lives to Him. This will give them access to “hear” the “thoughts and ideas” of Almighty God.
Next time John shares how the religious leaders tell Jesus, “Say we not well that you are a Samaritan, and have a devil?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
