The apostle John wrote how Jesus saw a man who was born blind and healed him by making clay, anointing his eyes and instructing him to wash in the pool of Siloam. The “blind man's” neighbors “brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind”, and after much questioning of the blind man and his parents, the formally blind man proclaimed, “Why herein is a marvelous thing, that you know not from where he is, and yet he has opened my eyes. Now we know that God hears not sinners: but if any man be a worshiper of God, and does his will, him he hears. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty-four of his book John shared how the Pharisees answered, “you were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” where we read:
They answered and said unto him, you were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?
And they cast him out.
The verse reads, “They answered and said unto him, you were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” John began with the words, “they answered and said unto him” which means “the Pharisees responded and uttered, declared and proclaimed to the formally blind man”, “you were altogether born in sins” or “you, formally blind man, were even so and indeed engendered, begotten and conceived in missing of the mark, error, mistake and violation of God's law”, “and do you teach us” which means “are you, formally blind man, holding discourse, instructing and conducting yourself as a teacher to us, the Pharisees”? John shared how the Pharisees declared the formally blind man to have been “birthed and engendered” in “violation to God's law” and wondered if the formally blind man was acting as a “teacher” to them.
The verse goes on to say, “And they cast him out.” John continued with the words, “and they” which means “and the religious leaders known as Pharisees” “cast him out” or “threw, drove and expelled the formally blind man away from the sacred worship place”. John shared how the religious leaders known as “Pharisees” “expelled” the formally blind man from the “temple”.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how the Pharisees were so upset with the man who was formally blind that they “threw” him out of the sacred place of worship. The formally blind man's parents were afraid this would happen to them if they believed Jesus was the Christ, and now the religious leaders performed in the manner they feared toward their son. How “spiritually blind” could these men be? This is why Jesus came to the world. Because people believe what they have concluded is correct and the right path, to the point of casting out others who know differently, Jesus knew they needed to “see” or they would never believe in Him. Faith in Jesus is the answer to “seeing” spiritually, and when a person gives their heart and life to Jesus, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and help them to “see” in a way they have never “seen” before. Let all who read these words believe in Jesus and “see”.
Next time John shares how, “Jesus heard that they had cast him out”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
