John the apostle wrote how Jesus saw a man who was born blind and healed him by making clay, anointing his eyes and instructing him to wash in the pool of Siloam. The “blind man's” neighbors “brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind”, and after much questioning of the blind man and his parents, the formally blind man proclaimed, “Why herein is a marvelous thing, that you know not from where he is, and yet he has opened my eyes. Now we know that God hears not sinners: but if any man be a worshiper of God, and does his will, him he hears. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. They answered and said unto him, you were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us? And they cast him out”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty-five of his book John shared how, “Jesus heard that they had cast him out” where we read:
Jesus heard that they had cast him out;
and when he had found him, he said unto him, Do you believe on the Son of God?
The verse reads, “Jesus heard that they had cast him out;” John began with the words, “Jesus heard” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation was endowed with the faculty of hearing, perceiving, understanding and discerning” “that they had cast him out” or “that the Pharisees threw, drove and expelled the formally blind man from the temple”, He did the following. John shared how Jesus “heard” that the Pharisees expelled the formally blind man from the temple and did the following.
The verse continues, “and when he had found him, he said unto him, Do you believe on the Son of God?” John added the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “he had found him” or “Jesus discovered, understood and procured where the formally blind man was”, “he said unto him” which means “Jesus uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked the formally blind man”, “Do you believe” or “do you, formally blind man, think it to be true, place confidence in and trust” “on the Son of God” which means “upon the revered kingship belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”? John shared how Jesus asked the “formally blind man” if He “trusted in, relied upon, clung to and had confidence in” God's own Son.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn one of the most basic questions presented to all mankind. Though this formally blind man was “expelled” from the temple, He was not too far away for Jesus to seek for him and ask Him the question, “Do you believe on the Son of God?” God sent His Son Jesus into the world to give everyone an opportunity to “believe and trust” in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When they yield their lives to Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Those who are wise will consider Jesus' question, “Do you believe on the Son of God” who is Jesus? May all who read “believe in Jesus” regardless of how they have been treated in the sacred gatherings.
Next time John shares how the formally blind man answered, “who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
