The apostle John wrote how Jesus told the Jewish people who were questioning Him, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by”, and in chapter nine and verse one of his book John shared how Jesus, “saw a man which was blind from his birth” where we read:
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
The verse reads, “And as Jesus passed by, ...” John began with the words, “and as Jesus” which means “and while and during the time the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “passed by” or “went forth, departed, traveled and lead along the way” the following occurred. John shared during the time when Jesus was “traveling”, the following event happened.
The verse continues, “... he saw a man which was blind from his birth.” John added the words, “he saw a man” which means “Jesus observed, beheld, noticed and perceived a male human being” “which was blind” or “who had opaque vision or was without sight” “from his birth” which means “from the time he was born”. John shared how Jesus “observed” a “man” along the passageway who was “without sight” from the time He was born.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we discover another person Jesus noticed as He ministered among people while on the earth. This time it was a “man” who was “without sight” from the time He was born. Jesus will help this man in our next few verses, however, let it suffice us for now to understand “every person” is “spiritually blind” toward the things of God until they yield their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Though their conscience may trouble them, they truly begin to see the righteousness, holiness and completeness of God Almighty when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus. Let all who read these words put themselves in the place of this “blind man” and realize, they too have been “blind” from birth to the “spiritual righteousness” of God.
Next time John shares how, “his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
