This is Our Son Born Blind - John 9:20

John the apostle wrote how Jesus saw a man who was born blind and healed him by making clay, putting the clay in his eyes, and having him wash in the pool of Siloam. The “blind man's” neighborsbrought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see. Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keeps not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. They said unto the blind man again, What do you say of him, that he has opened your eyes? He said, He is a prophet. But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? how then does he now see?, and in chapter nine and verse twenty of his book John shared how the parents answered the Jews, “we know that this is our son, and that he was born blind” where we read:

His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

The verse reads, “His parents answered them and said, ... John began with the words, “His parents answered them” which means “the blind man's immediate progenitors and ancestors responded and began to speak to the Pharisees” “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. John shared how the formally blind man's parents responded to the Pharisees with the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: John added the words, “we know” which means “we, the blind man's parents, understand, perceive and discern” “that this is our son” or “that this man is our male progeny and offspring”, “and that he was born blind” which means “and that the man was birthed and engendered without sight”. John shared how the “parents” of the “blind man” verified that he was their “male progeny” and was “birthed without sight”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how the “parents” of the “formally blind man” responded to the “religious leaders'” questions. They validated not only that the “blind man” was their “son”, but also that he was indeed “born blind”. It is interesting to note how these “religious leaders” seemed to be more involved in verifying the “blindness” of this man rather than rejoicing over his ability to see. Believing in Jesus is very difficult for many people, and some of them will never believe. They tend to “examine evidence” and scrutinize details, and because a relationship with Jesus requires “faith and trust” in Him, they will not cross that barrier. God love people, and He is willing to save every person who yields to His Son Jesus. This requires “belief” that like the Pharisees many people will never obtain.

Next time John shares how the parents answer the Jews, “but by what means he now sees, we know not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
