In Psalms chapter five David wrote, “you are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with you. The foolish shall not stand in your sight: you hate all workers of iniquity. You shall destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man”, and in chapter five and verse seven of Psalms David wrote, “I will come into your house in the multitude of your mercy” where we read,
But as for me, I will come into your house in the multitude of your mercy:
and in your fear will I worship toward your holy temple.
The verse begins, “But as for me, I will come into your house in the multitude of your mercy:” David began with the words, “But as for me” which means “however for me, David”, “I will come into your house” or “I, David, will enter and go in your, God's, dwelling place, abode and habitation” “in the multitude” which means “in the abundance, greatness, hugeness and plenteousness” “of your mercy” or “pertaining to God's kindness, faithfulness and goodness”. David shared how he would enter the habitation of God because of the abundance and plenteousness of His faithfulness and kindness.
The verse goes on to say, “and in your fear will I worship toward your holy temple.” David continued with the words, “and in your fear” or “and in the awe, respect, reverence and piety of God” “will I worship” which means “will David bow down, prostrate himself and make obeisance” “toward your holy temple” or “in the direction of God's sacred, set apart and separate palace, nave or sanctuary”. David shared how he would prostrate himself in awe and reverence in the direction of God's sacred sanctuary.
When we think through the words in this verse, we notice David's contrasting reverence and awe of God to those who take pleasure in wickedness, work iniquity, speak leasing and are bloody and deceitful. In other words, David humbled himself before the LORD, and put himself in a posture before God to honor and respect Him. God Almighty created the world and all the people within it. He desired to have a personal relationship with every one of them, and yet, sin entered their lives. Sin separated people from God, and without His intervention, they would be forever apart from Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to pay the price of death on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He raised Him from the dead three days later to provide eternal life to all who believe. Anyone who humbles themselves and turns in reverence toward Him in His “holy habitation” will receive His “abundant mercy”, forgiveness of sins and everlasting life with Him. Let us come to the LORD in reverence and give Him honor and praise for His wonderful plan of salvation and redemption of mankind.
Next time David says, “Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
