In this Messianic Psalm King David asked, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision”, and in chapter two and verse five of the book of Psalms David shared how God will, “speak unto them in his wrath” where we read,
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
The verse begins, “Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, …”. David began with the words, “then shall he speak unto them” or “at that time the LORD will talk, declare, converse, command, promise, warn and threaten the kings and rulers who oppose Him” “in his wrath” which means “in the LORD's ire with the forehead, nose and nostrils flaring with rapid breathing”. David shared how Jehovah God will converse with the “heathen kings and rulers” who desire to rid themselves of Him with His “nostril wrinkling and heavy breathing” anger.
The verse continues, “... and vex them in his sore displeasure.” David added the words, “and vex them” or “and disturb, alarm, dismay, make terrified and anxious the heathen kings and rulers” “in his sore displeasure” which means “in the burning heat of the LORD's anger”. David wrote how Jehovah God would “terrify and make afraid” all the “heathen kings and rulers” who desire to remove Him from their lives.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the LORD responds to the “heathen kings and rulers” who desire to throw off His rule and reign over them. God threatens them with His “nostril wrinkling” anger, and He will effect “terror” within them them when they hear Him. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for their sins. Anyone who yields to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Everyone who refuses and rejects Jesus Christ will experience the “Holy wrath” of God who provided “salvation”, but was rejected by those who are opposed to Him.
Next time David says God will, “set my king upon my holy hill of Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
