In Psalms chapter six David wrote, “O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, neither chasten me in your hot displeasure. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed”, and in Psalms chapter six and verse three David wrote, “My soul is also sore vexed” where we read,
My soul is also sore vexed: but you, O LORD, how long?
The verse begins with the words, “My soul is also sore vexed:” David began with the words, “My soul” which means “My, David's, seat of emotions and passions” “is also sore vexed” or “exists as even and indeed disturbed, alarmed, anxious, afraid and nervous”. David told the LORD his “emotions and passions” were disturbed and anxious.
The verse goes on to say, “but you, O LORD, how long?” David continued with the words, “but you, O LORD” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover, O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “how long” which means “for what length of time and until when”? David asked Jehovah God when he would be restored.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David poured out his heart to the LORD God as he questioned “how long” he would have to wait until his “soul” would be restored. We can relate to this. Many times our we become nervous, anxious and disturbed emotionally, and we learn from David what to do when this happens. We are to be honest and open with the LORD who will hear us, and we will find He is willing to answer our questions according to His timing for relief. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of mankind to demonstrate His care. (See Romans 5:8) Anyone who yields to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. Then God's Holy Spirit becomes the comforter and guide to help believers when their emotions are overwhelmed and they wonder how long it will be until they are relieved. Let all praise and glory be to Jehovah God for His purpose and plan to restore us when we are “vexed”.
Next time David says, “Return, O LORD, deliver my soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
