The beloved physician Luke wrote how Paul was being kept under guard in Rome, and “when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Ghost by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and not perceive. For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse thirty of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him” where we read:
And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
The verse begins, “And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, ...” Luke began with the words, “and Paul dwelt two whole years” which means “and Paul, whose name means small or little, lived, abode and remained for the space of two entire years” “in his own hired house” or “within his, “Paul's”, rented building, dwelling or lodging place”. Luke shared how “Paul” lived in a “rented” house in Rome for the space of “two entire years”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and received all that came in unto him, ...” Luke continued with the words, “and received all” which means “and accepted, welcomed and approved of each, every, the whole and everyone of the people” “that came in unto him” or “who arose and appeared to Paul”. Luke shared how “Paul” accepted every person who came to visit him in his house.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” was under “house” arrest as he stayed in “Rome”. It was to be a while before he would be tried before “Caesar”, and for two entire years he received people into his house to no doubt share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them. God loves people, and his servant “Paul” was determined to share His good news with every person who would listen. God desires to forgive the sins of every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they submit to Him, He will grant them eternal life so they may live with Him forever and ever.
Next time Luke shares how Paul was, “Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
