No Help for Him in God - Psalms 3:2

In Psalms chapter three the title began with the words, “[[A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.]] LORD”, and King David wrote, “how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me”, and in chapter three and verse two of the book of Psalms David shares about people who say, There is no help for him in God” where we read,

Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

The verse begins, “Many there be which say of my soul, ...” David began with the words, “many there be” or “a great, abundant and numerous amount of people exist” “which say of my soul” which means “who utter, declare and proclaim pertaining to David's self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion and passion”. David shared how there were a great number of people who spoke the following words about his “life, desires, emotions and passions”.

The verse continues, “There is no help for him in God. Selah.” David added the words, “there is no help for him” or “there exists no salvation, deliverance, prosperity or victory on David's behalf” “in God” which means “within the One true Divine One”. “Selah” which means “to lift up or exalt and was a technical musical term probably showing accentuation, pause and interruption”. David wrote how the many people who were against him declared that there was no salvation, deliverance or prosperity for him within the One true God, and David ended the verse with the word “Selah” or pause and think about it.

When we consider the words in this verse, learn how there were “many” people who were risen up against King David, and they spoke disparagingly against him. They declared that not even God Himself would save or prosper him. We must remember these words were the opinion of people who were David's “enemies”, People often make conclusions about others whom they disregard or detest. We shall see what David does with these words in our next few verses, but let us be aware that God knows those who are in opposition to His believers. In fact, we are introduced to the word, “Selah” which basically means to pause and think about what has just been declared. God loves people, and He will forgive the sins of everyone who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus. God wants a personal relationship with every person who “comes” to Him in humility, and when they do, He will be their protection, salvation and deliverance regardless of what others may say. This thought is worthy of interruption, pausing and carefully meditating upon what David declared through God's Holy Spirit.

Next time David says, “But you, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
