In this Messianic Psalm King David asked, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us”, and in chapter two and verse four of the book of Psalms David shared how, “He that sits in the heavens shall laugh” where we read,
He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
The verse begins, “He that sits in the heavens shall laugh:”. David began with the words, “He that sits” or “He, God the Heavenly Father who is seated” “in the heavens” which means “within the lofty sky where the celestial bodies revolve” “shall laugh” or “will make sport, jest and make merry mockingly”. David shared how Jehovah God in “Heaven” will “make sport of and jest mockingly” at the plans and purposes of the “heathen rulers and kings” on the earth.
The verse goes on to say, “the Lord shall have them in derision.” David continued with the words, “the Lord” or “Yahweh God” “shall have them” which means “will mock, deride and ridicule the heathen kings and rulers of the earth” “in derision” or “in ridicule and disrespect”. David wrote how Jehovah God will “mock and deride” the “heathen rulers and kings of the earth” who conspire to throw off His bands.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how “God” who dwells in Heaven will “mockingly make sport” of the “heathen rulers and kings” who think they can throw off His restraints. God rules over the world, and anyone who refuses to be governed by Him does so to their own detriment. God loves people, and He will forgive them for their errors and wrongs when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Anyone who surrenders to Jesus aligns themselves under the greatest and most compassionate authority they shall ever know, and only the foolish attempt to “cast off” God the Father's bands by refusing to receive His Son Jesus as the Messiah and Christ of their lives.
Next time David says God will, “speak unto them in his wrath”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
