Last time we saw where King David wrote, “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful”, and in chapter one and verse two of the book of Psalms David shared about the blessed man, “his delight is in the law of the LORD” where we read,
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night.
The verse begins, “But his delight is in the law of the LORD;”. David began with the words, “but his delight” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the blessed man's pleasure, desire and longing” “is in the law” which means “exists within the direction and instruction” “of the LORD” or “pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the one true God”. David shared how the person who is “blessed” is the one who has “pleasure, delight and longing” for the word of Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “and in his law does he meditate day and night.” David continued with the words, “and in his law” or “and within Jehovah God's direction and instruction” “does he meditate” which means “the blessed man moans, growls, utters, devises, plots and speaks” “day and night” or “from sunrise to sunset and sunset to sunrise”. David said the “blessed man” consecrates his thoughts upon the word or law of God all day and all night long. David said the “blessed man” thinks about, ponders over, chews on and muses over God's law throughout the day and nighttime.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how important it is for a person who desires to be “blessed” or “oh how happy” to be joyful over and long for God's word, and they “muse over, think about and dwell upon” His word all through the day and night. When we read and study the word of God, the ideas, concepts and ways of Him begin to rule our thoughts. God is for us, and He gave us His word to learn of Him and His ways. God wants us to be “blessed”, and He gave us His Son Jesus to die for our sins so we could be in relationship with Him. When we receive Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to love and desire His “law” so we will be “oh so happy” in the manner David described.
Next time we see how David says about the blessed man, “he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
