Last time we saw where King David wrote, “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous”, and in chapter one and verse six of the book of Psalms David shared how, “the LORD knows the way of the righteous” where we read,
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
The verse begins, “For the LORD knows the way of the righteous:”. David began with the words, “For the LORD” or “because, since and on account that Jehovah which means the existing One and is the one true God” “knows the way” which means “distinguishes, perceives, sees and discerns the road, path and journey” “of the righteous” or “belonging to the lawful, just and correct in conduct and character”. David shared how Jehovah God is well aware of the path and journey of people who are lawful and just in their conduct and character.
The verse goes on to say, “but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” David continued with the words, “but the way” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the road, path and journey” “of the ungodly” which means “belonging to the wicked, guilty of sin, criminal and hostile to God” “shall perish” or “will vanish, go astray, be destroyed and exterminated”. David wrote how the journey and pathway of people who are “wicked, guilty of sin, criminal and hostile to God” will be “destroyed and exterminated”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we gain understand about Jehovah God's knowledge of the journey and path of people who are “just and lawful” in their “conduct and character”, and He is also well aware of those who are wicked, guilty of sin and hostile to Him. God will bless the the person who walks in His ways, however, those who travel contrary to Him will “vanish and be destroyed”. God knows all of mankind walked in opposition to Him because “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”. (See Romans 3:23). Everyone would “perish” if it were not for God sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for their sins even as the apostle John wrote, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18) The fact that King David was inspired to contrast the judgment of the “righteous” with the “ungodly” shows that God is aware of the human condition, and He will forgive the sins of every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. Belief in Jesus will turn the “ungodly” person into a “righteous” person because of what Jesus did on the cross. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21)
Next time we begin a new Psalm which is known as a “Messianic Psalm” where David asks, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
