Some Believed and Some Believed Not - Acts 28:24

Luke the beloved physician wrote how Paul was being kept under guard in Rome, and “when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse twenty-four of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not” where we read:

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

The verse begins, “And some believed the things which were spoken, ... Luke began with the words, “and some believed the things” which means “and a certain number of the people trusted, relied upon and had confidence in the words” “which were spoken” or “that were uttered, declared and proclaimed by Paul”. Luke shared how a certain number of the people who came to where “Paul” was and heard his words, trusted in what he had to say.

The verse continues, “... and some believed not.” Luke added the words, “and some” which means “and a certain number of the people who came to where “Paul” was” “believed not” or “did not trust in, rely upon or have confidence in the words Paul spoke to them”. Luke shared how there were other people among the group who gathered to “Paul” who did not trust in or rely upon the words he spoke to them.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the response of the people who listened to “Paul” testify about the Kingdom of God and Jesus Christ His Son. Some people believed his words, and other people did not. Such is the case today. Some people hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and believe, and others refuse and reject Him. God offers people the opportunity to receive His salvation plan which consists of His Son Jesus dying on the cross for their sins and being raised from the dead three days later. Those who believe in Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life, however, those who refuse to receive God's plan of redemption will spend eternity separated from the God of the Universe who offered them an invitation to “come” unto Him and be saved.

Next time Luke shares how, “Paul had spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Ghost by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
