A City Having the Glory of God Revelation 21:11

After all the events of the tribulation period, the millennial reign of Jesus and the “Great White Throne” judgment, John the apostle wrote, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” John added how God shall wipe away all tears and allow no more death, sorrow, crying or pain”, and He is to make “all things new”. He also gave a warning to those who are “fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” He continued, “And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come here, I will show thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God”, and in Revelation chapter twenty-one and verse eleven John shares how the “city” has, “the glory of God” where we read:

Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious,
even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
The verse reads, “Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, ... John began with the word, “having” which means “holding, owning and possessing” “the glory” or “praise, honor, splendor and honor” “of God” which means “pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”: “and her light” or “and the city's illumination, brightness and brilliancy” “was like” which means “was similar to and as” “a stone” or “a small stone” “most precious” which means “of great price, honored, esteemed, beloved and dear”. John saw the “brilliance” of the heavenly “city” that was likened to a “honored and esteemed stone” because it holds God's “honor and splendor”.

The verse continues, “...even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; ” John continued with the words, “even like” which means “similar to and as” “a jasper stone” which means “a precious little stone of various colors such as purple, blue, green and brass”, “clear as crystal” which means “of crystalline brightness and transparency”. John likened the “city's” brilliance to a transparent and beautiful “jasper” stone.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we can hardly imagine the illumination of this beautiful city. It is filled with “God's glory”, and the brilliance of it is like “precious jasper stone”. Oh the wonder of this “great city” which God has prepared for those who receive Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”. God desires that everyone yield to His Son, and those who do, shall see things like this “glorious city” which they have never seen before.

Next time John shares how the city had, “a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
