Walls of Jasper and a City of Gold Revelation 21:18

After all the events of the tribulation period, the millennial reign of Jesus and the “Great White Throne” judgment, John the apostle wrote, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” John added how God will wipe away all tears and allow no more death, sorrow, crying or pain”, and He is to make “all things new”. He also gave a warning to those who are “fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death”, and he continued, “And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come here, I will show your the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. And the city lies foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel”, and in Revelation chapter twenty-one and verse eighteen John shares about, “the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold” where we read:

And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
The verse reads, And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: John began with the words, “and the building” which means “and the material built” “of the wall” or “belonging to the wall” “of it” which means “pertaining to the heavenly city” “was of jasper” or “a precious stone of various colors for some are purple, others blue, others green and others the color of brass”. John saw the material used for the “wall of the heavenly city” was made of “precious jasper stone”.

The verse goes on to say, “and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.” John continued with the words, “and the city” which means “and the heavenly dwelling place and abode” “was pure gold” which means “was of precious gold that was clean and purified by fire” “like unto” or “similar to and as” “clear glass” which means “transparent, clean and pure glass”. John saw how the “heavenly city” was made of “pure gold” which was like “transparent and clean glass”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we can hardly imagine the beauty of this “heavenly city”. God Almighty has all things within His control, and He employs some of the most precious materials, such as jasper and gold, to fabricate this city. The opulence employed is indicative of the greatness and majesty of God, and He desires for every person to enjoy these things through a relationship with His Son Jesus. Let all who read these words attempt to picture this beautifully adorned “city” and be certain they are in attendance when it is presented by receiving Jesus today.

Next time John shares how, “the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
