The Gates of the City Will Not be Shut Revelation 21:25

After all the events of the tribulation period, the millennial reign of Jesus and the “Great White Throne” judgment, John the apostle wrote, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” John described the heavenly city as he wrote, “And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honor into it.” In Revelation chapter twenty-five John shares how, “the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day” where we read:

And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
The verse reads, And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: John began with the words, “and the gates” which means “and the portals or vestibules” “of it” or “belonging to the heavenly city” “shall not be shut” which means “will not be closed or obstructed” “at all” or “no not in any way” “by day” which means “throughout time in general”. John shared how the “gates” for the “heavenly city” will never be closed..

The verse continues, “ for there shall be no night there.” John added the word, “for” which means “because, since and on account of” “there shall be no night” which refers to “there will be no darkness, time of cessation of work, deeds of sin or shame” “there” or “within the heavenly city”. John shared how there will be “no darkness at all” within the “heavenly city” and therefore the “gates” were never to be closed.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we realize that “gates” are generally employed to keep out evil and keep the people within safe. There will be no need for them to be closed because all the wickedness and evil shall be gone, and no darkness or “night” shall be there. God desires to share this wonderful place with everyone who will submit their lives to His Son Jesus Christ, and when they accept God's plan of “salvation” through Him, they shall enjoy the open “gates” of the “heavenly city” along with God and His Son Jesus.

Next time John shares how “they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
