A Pure River of Water of Life Revelation 22:1

After all the events of the tribulation period, the millennial reign of Jesus and the “Great White Throne” judgment, John the apostle wrote, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” John described the heavenly city as he wrote, “And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honor into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defiles, neither whatsoever works abomination, or makes a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.” In Revelation chapter twenty-two and verse one John shares about, “a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal” where we read:

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
The verse reads, “And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, ... John began with the words, “and he showed me” which means “and the angel exposed and gave evidence or proof of” “a pure river” or “a clean, free from corruption, blameless, innocent and unstained stream or torrent” “of water” which means “of water that flows in fountains and pools” “of life” or “belonging to living, real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and to last for ever ”, “clear” or “shining, brilliant, transparent, splendid and magnificent” “as crystal” which means “like the crystal rock which looks like ice”. John was shown a “pure river” which was “brilliant and transparent” that flowed.

The verse goes on to say, “... proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” John continued with the word, “proceeding” which means “going forth and departing” “out of the throne” which refers to “away from and separate from the chair of state having a footstool which is assigned to kingly power or royalty” “of God” which means “belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “and of the Lamb” or “pertaining to the little lamb which represents Jesus”. John shared how the “crystal clear” river “flowed” from God's heavenly “throne”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see something new shown to him by the angel. This “pure crystal river” which flows from God's throne becomes another wonderful feature on which to look. God desires to have everyone enjoy this beautiful “river”, and all that is necessary is to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus came to the earth, lived a sinless life, died for the sins of the world and was resurrected the third day so each person could enjoy heaven and God's pure river forever. Oh that all reading these words would submit their lives to Him and look forward to this beautiful river that awaits them in the future.

Next time we see John share about “the tree of life, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
