Simeon Not to Die Until He saw Christ - Luke 2:26

Luke the physician wrote, “there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel”, and in chapter two and verse twenty-six of his book Luke shared how Simeon expected that he, “should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ” where we read:

And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost,

that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

The verse reads, “And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, ...” Luke began with the words, “and it was revealed unto him” or “and it was instructed, divinely intimated and told” “by the Holy Ghost” which means “through and by way of the most holy, sacred, pure, morally blameless and religiously and ceremonially consecrated third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son”. Luke shared how God's “Holy Spirit” “divinely” shared with Simeon the following truth.

The verse continues, “... that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.” Luke added the words, “that he should not see death” which means “that Simeon would not take his last breath and die” “before he had seen” or “in advance of Simeon experiencing, perceiving and appearing in front of” “the Lord's Christ” which means “the Messiah and Son of God belonging to the One in whom a person or thing belongs about which he has power of deciding; master and the title to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how “Simeon” was promised that he would not “die” before he saw God's “Messiah” and “Christ”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we discover the promise that was given to “Simeon” by God's “Holy Spirit”. “Simeon” was told that he would not “die” before he saw the “Messiah” of God with his own eyes. God blessed this man with this promise as part of the story surrounding the birth of His Son, and those who look into the details of Jesus' birth may come to know the Lord as their personal “Savior”, will be forgiven of their sins, receive “everlasting life” and eventually behold “the Lord's Christ” with their own eyes.

Next time Luke shares how Simeon, “came by the Spirit into the temple”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
