Mary Blessed are You Among Women - Luke 1:42

Luke the physician wrote how Mary questioned the “angel Gabriel” concerning her being pregnant with the Son of God. She asked, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word. And the angel departed from her. And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda. And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost, and in chapter one and verse forty-two Luke shared, “spoke out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women” where we read:

And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said,

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

The verse reads, “And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said, ... Luke began with the words, “and she spoke out” or “and Elisabeth exclaimed and cried aloud” “with a loud voice” which means “with a great, intense and powerful sound, noise and tone”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following. Luke shared how Elisabeth “exclaimed loudly” with the following words.

The verse continues, “... Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” Luke added the word, “Blessed” which means “praised, celebrated and consecrated” “are you among women” or “are you Mary with female human beings”, “and blessed” which means “and praised, celebrated and consecrated” “is the fruit of your womb” or “is that which originates or comes from Mary's stomach or belly”. Luke shared how “Elisabeth” declared “Mary” to be “praised and celebrated” among all “women” and the “fruit” of Mary's “womb” would be “praised and celebrated” as well.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how “Elisabeth” could not contain herself after Mary greeted her. She proclaimed “loudly” that Mary was “blessed” and the child within Mary's “womb” was blessed as well. God “blessed” “Elisabeth”, and “Elisabeth” “blessed” Mary and her baby. God's desire is to “bless” every person who yields their life to His Son Jesus, and those who are wise will not only discover the “blessings” of Elisabeth to Mary, but also the “blessings” that are available to them.

Next time Luke shares, “whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
